our elder cousin in America

Christopher Columbus has been portrayed as a Christian missionary in numerous films and books, but the theory that Columbus was a Jew today has been endorsed by many historians, who all believe that the man who discovered Americas was in fact, a secretive Jew (and demonstrated himself as a Christian). Historians also believe that the Columbus family was descended from Catalan Jews in “Barcelona”. They lived in Geneva, spoke Spanish and were Jewish. The French Magazine M. Interesse states in its October 1991 issue as following:

“Columbus was a seemingly converted Jew (Converso) of Catalan descent who had been deported and later settled as a refugee in Geneva.” Meyer Kaiserling, a Jewish historian writes: “Even Beatriz Enríquez, Columbus’s wife. Was a Jew.”(۱)

“His real name was not Columbus, nor was he an Italian born in Geneva, but his real name was John Colón , and was born in near Ponte Vedra,” says David M. Eichhorn, a Jewish writer: “He was in fact, a Spanish Jew.” (۲)

In the article “Was Christopher Columbus really a Jew?” (۳) Written by Dalia Sayah, published in the newspaper Shalom (Turkish Jewish Organ):

“In the upper left-hand corner of all the letters Columbus sent to his family is a monogram whose meaning was discovered fifty years ago by Maurice David. This monogram consists of two letters, which every Jew wrote at the top of all his writings. These two letters were the two words Beth and ha, which today are known to refer to the phrase Ezrat ha cham Be or Baruch chem (which means Holy is the Jewish God).

Another point that proves his being a secretive Jew; is how he holds his left hand (with open fingers on the right chest) in his portrays and paintings. This was a cryptic act that the “Marrano” Jews (۴) used to identify each other.

Now is the time to reveal the true identity of this great discoverer: The Sephardim Christopher Columbus. “We can now introduce him. He is our elder cousin in America!” (۵)

In another issue, the magazine introduces books such as Was Christopher Columbus a Jew? By Sarah Leibovici, Partrait Historique de Christophe Colomb by Marieanne Mahn-lot, and The Participation of the Jews in the Spanish and Portuguese Discoveries by Meyer Kayserling; whilst introducing Columbus like:

“Was Columbus a Jew? Today [his theory of being a Jew] is a historical fact; One of the strongest and most indisputable reasons in this regard is the letter written by the monk Hernando de Talavera to Queen Isabella a few days before the beginning of Columbus’s journey. In this letter, Talavera urges to prevent the sending of a foreigner who is under Devil’s Control, to this adventurous mission. The monk continues: If the Holy Spirit wanted his children to step on unknown seas, he would not have waited for an incognito and foreigner to do so. I did not understand the meaning of the dream that the monk Jean had seen, how is it possible that as a result of this disgusting journey of Columbus, the holy lands would fall to the Jewish hands? The monk Jane told me that he had seen in his dream Saint Jean Baptiste, and he said Columbus’s quest would be very blessed for the Jews, and they would find the rest place of Jesus.”

As it is confirmed by Lee M. Friedman (a Jewish historian), a complete triangle (which is sacred to Jews and is usually used in their cemeteries and temples), could be found in all of Columbus’s signatures. (۶) and There were no Christian monks on board Columbus, only Arabic and Hebrew translators accompanied him. (۷)

Another important point about Columbus being a Jew is that he attempted to satisfy the Queen to set out on a journey, with the mediation of a Jew. the plea was India’s being the focus point for colonialists for a long time, especially during the colonial era. In the 15th century, on the one hand, the attainment of wealth in this region was at the top of the goals of European kings, and on the other hand, the Ottoman Empire (which was at the golden age of its power at that time) was preventing them from reaching those areas due to its complete control over the routes to India, or at least. Increased the prices of their journeys.  Christopher Columbus proposed that Europeans could travel faster and safer to India via navy (through westwards) and across the Atlantic, but many of his contemporaneous naval experts disagreed with his idea.

Christopher Columbus sought financial support for the trip, so he presenting his plan to the King of Portugal first, and then took it to Geneva and Venice, but was rejected due to the high cost of the trip and the low odds of success. Columbus went to Spain to Isabella I, Queen of Castile and Ferdinand II, his husband, and reiterated his plan. the plan was rejected again, but was accepted by Isabella after an infamous Jew, Luis de Santangel (the royal scribe and the minister in charge of Royal finance) mediated. The Jewish Encyclopedia also cites Isaac Abrabanel, Luis de Santangel, and Gabriel Sanchez as Columbus’s travel investors, and adds that Columbus wrote his famous travel report to Santangel and Sanchez, which was immediately published and distributed throughout Europe. This shows that the two were in charge of his journey. His trip was carried out with the help of maps provided by these two Jews. (۸)

Will Durant’s description, though poetic, is eloquent and clarifies who the investors and supporters of Columbus’s trip were. (۹)

“At this crucial moment, a baptized Jew turned the wheel of history. Luis de Santangel (Ferdinand’s Minister of Finance) rebuked Isabella for her lack of imagination and courage to take risks, provoking her with the promise of Christianizing the people of Asia; And he offered to finance the trip with the help of some friends. Several other Jews, such as Don Isaac Abrabanel, Juan Cabrero, and Rabbi Abraham Senior, supported him. Isabella was motivated and offered her jewels to make the support them, but Santangel has seen no need for that. He borrowed 1.4 million maravedís [the currency of the Moroccan and Andalusian Almoravid dynasty, equal to 1.34 Christian Spanish riyals] from the brotherhood which he was its treasurer, and added 350,000 maravedís of his own fund; thus Christopher Columbus received this amount plus 250,000 other maravedís, and The king signed papers on April 17, 1492.” (۱۰)

Here are some essential questions:

In his memoirs about Native Americans, Columbus says “… They had big and strong bodies, and attractive faces … They do not take up arms and do not even recognize it, because I once showed them a sword, they took it from the cutting edge and wounded themselves out of ignorance. they had no iron, their spears were made of sugarcanes… they are good slaves … only five people were enough to make them obey and do whatever we wanted ” (۱۱) What is he really looking for and what does he mean by the last sentence of this phrase? Indeed, if Columbus and his companions were looking for wealth and gold, what was the need for the massacre of the Indians, and why did they pursue a policy of genocide and mass extermination of the native population?

According to Ernest Mandel: “Everyone knows terrible savagery of the Conquistadors in America. They killed 15 million Indians over a fifty-year period, and conservative historians estimate that number up to 12 million. regions such as Haiti, Cuba, Nicaragua and the densely populated coasts of Venezuela were completely depopulated.” (۱۲)

When Columbus discovered the Americas, its Native American population was over 30 million, while in a fifty-year period, 15 million Indians perished, and we now have a population of two million. With the arrival of Columbus in the Caribbean, on the next voyages, many Jews have moved to these lands and Over the coming hundred years, many of them from all over the world migrate to these new regions. What was the reason for that genocide and the replacement of the Jews with the original inhabitants? Columbus knew the Old Testament completely by heart, and this could not be an issue for a person belonging to the Catholic Christian community. Some of the atrocities committed against the natives are commanded in the distorted Torah against the Canaanites (usurpers of the Promised Land).

Indeed, why is the role of the Jews in Christopher Columbus’s journey and clearing his way to make it successfully is so permanent? Why should the Jews ever invest like this to Christianize the nations of the world, and even willingly pay the full cost of this trip from their brotherhood’s funds? Another point is that Christopher Columbus, according to many documents, attributes himself to king David, and‌ many years, the first book he published in discovered regions after him is Psalms, what can this indicate? And the most important question is what was the reason for Columbus being a secretive Jew, and why he was hiding his identity all the long of his trip?!

What conclusions can be drawn from these premises?  these questions are remained to be answered in the next article.
